About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The main aim of the journal is to promote the study of history, language, literature and culture through the publication of research articles in the field of Arabic, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies.

The Journal of Arabic and Islamic Studies (JAIS) is an international, peer-reviewed, open access, academic journal. It is also the world's most widely read journal in the field of Arabic, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies.

The main aim of the journal is to promote the study of history, language, literature and culture through the publication of research articles. It was founded in 1995 by Joseph N. Bell (then University of Bergen, Norway) and Petr Zemánek (Charles University, Prague). The current editors are Lutz Edzard (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg), Stephan Guth, Jacob Høigilt and Einar Wigen (Oslo University, Norway).

Volumes from 1995 to 2002 were published on paper by Edinburgh University Press. The Journal is now published electronically on its primary site hosted by Oslo University. Pre-2013 articles, i.e., those having appeared in vol. 1(1996) - 12(2012), are accessible in html and pdf from the Journal's previous website at Lancaster.
