”Museene trenger kjærlige – og kritiske – blikk. For kjærlighet og interesse er betingelsene for god kritikk”, säger professorn i museologi vid Oslo universitet Brita Brenna i sitt förord till denna bok. Det kan jag bara hålla helhjärtat med om. Den som studerar museologi på avancerad nivå brinner av lust att tränga sig djupt ner i sin älskades mysterier, nämligen i museets, tingens och kulturarvets innersta vä- sen. Denna bok är skriven av nio masterstudenter i museologi vid Oslo universitet. De ser på museer ur lika många olika synvinklar – vilket också vittnar om fältets stora bredd; essäerna handlar om kataloger som museologiska ”expertvittnen”, utställningsteori ”från system till kontext”, arkitektur på en världsutställning (1893), ”fellesmagasiner” som idé och praxis, konstnärliga interventioner i kulturhistoriska museer, internetteknologi som förändringsmotor i museer, naturhistoriska museiföremål – ”lånta ädrar”, fotografier som kulturhistoria samt den kvistiga frågan om huruvida konstmuseer behöver text i sina utställningar.
