2024-04-28

We hereby call for papers to a special issue on Feeling forward: emotion and affect in philosophy of education.

Guest editors:

  • Claudia Schumann, PhD, Södertörn University, Stockholm
  • Marie Hållander, PhD, Södertörn University, Stockholm

The turn towards emotion and affect within the humanities and social sciences in recent decades has also produced many innovative studies within the field of education. For this special issue we are calling for papers that explore a variety of philosophical perspectives on the role of emotion and affect in education. What do feelings do in education? What has the turn toward affect and emotion done in philosophy of education? What are possibilities for the field in the future? For this special issue we invite scholars in education and philosophy, as well as related disciplines, to explore these questions in relation to a wide range of philosophical topics and themes. We invite both traditional journal articles of 5000-8000 words, as well as other contributions such as interviews with scholars, or poetical and narrative forms of writing that explore relevant topics, such as:

  • conceptual delineations between feelings, emotions, moods and affect
  • conceptual explorations of specific feelings, emotions, moods and affect in different educational contexts
  • the politics of emotions
  • emotional pedagogies
  • emotions, bodies and embodiment
  • emotions and educational spaces
  • decolonial perspectives on emotion and affect
  • affect and emotion in teaching and learning
  • emotions, affect and educational relations

All contributions will undergo a double-blind review process.
