Author Guidelines

Thank you for choosing to submit your work to Speki. Nordic Philosophy and Education Review. These guidelines should help you to prepare your manuscript in accordance with the journal’s requirements, so that your paper can move through the processes of peer review, production and publication as smoothly as possible.

Speki receives and reviews submissions continuously throughout the full year. There are no submission fees, publication fees or page charges for this journal.

Templates for Submission

We ask that you download and use our article template or our book-review template when submitting to our journal.

Length of paper and book reviews

A typical paper for this journal is 6000 words. However, we accept papers up to 8000 words of length. Book reviews should have a maximum length of 1000 words.

Editorial procedure

The editors initially screen every submitted manuscript to see if it falls within the aims and scope of this journal. Suitable manuscripts will be subject for peer review.

This journal follows a double-blind reviewing procedure, which means that the author will remain anonymous to the reviewers throughout peer review. It is the responsibility of the author to anonymize the manuscript.

Author names, affiliations and any other potentially identifying information should be removed from the manuscript. Authors should avoid citing their own work in a way that could reveal their identity. You can view our instructions on ensuring a blind review for assistance.

Manuscript submission

Submission of a manuscript implies that the paper or book review have not been published earlier. Submission also implies that the manuscript is not under consideration for publication anywhere else, and that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, as well as by the responsible authorities at the institute where the work has been carried out.

We welcome reviews of books within the general scope of the journal. Please follow the formal guidelines for articles but observe that abstracts are not required. Book reviews are subjected to strict editorial procedures. Please contact the book review editor if you are interested in writing a review.

Preparing your manuscript

Before submission, please make sure that your paper is thoroughly language edited and adheres to these guidelines:

Structure

Your paper should follow this structure: Title page; abstract; keywords; main text. Next, acknowledgments; declaration of interest statement; and references.

Title page

A separate Title Page should be submitted along with the anonymized manuscript. Please make sure your title page contains the following information.

  • The title should be concise and informative
  • Author information. The name(s) of the author(s)
  • The affiliation(s) of the author(s), that is institution, department, city and country
  • Contact information of the corresponding author
  • If available, the 16-digit ORCID of the author(s)
  • Any acknowledgements, disclosures, or funding information should also be included on this page. The names of funding organizations should be written in full

Large Language Models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, do not satisfy this journal's authorship criteria. An attribution of authorship carries with it accountability for the work, which cannot be applied to LLMs.

Abstract and keywords

The article should have an abstract of 150 to 250 words. It is a requirement that the abstract is in English, also for articles written in the Danish, Swedish or Norwegian languages. Keywords help readers to research and find your article. Please, provide five or six keywords.

Style and Formatting

  • Use Times New Roman, 12-point for text.
  • Use italics for emphasis.
  • Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages.
  • Please note that long quotations should be indented without quotation marks.
  • Save your file in .docx format (Word 2007 or higher) or .doc format (older Word versions).

Headings

This journal uses unnumbered headings. Please use no more than two levels of displayed headings.

Abbreviations

Please avoid abbreviations. However, if unavoidable, define them at first mention and use them consistently thereafter.

Footnotes

Footnotes can be used to give additional information, which may include a quote translated by author in the running text. Footnotes should not consist solely of a reference citation. Always use footnotes instead of endnotes.

References

References should follow the APA style.

References in text should be cited by name and year in parentheses. After a quote, add parentheses containing author's name, year of publication, and page number.

The list of references should only include works cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communications and unpublished works should only be mentioned in the text. Reference list entries should be alphabetized by the last names of the first author of each work.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

This journal is committed to academic work at high ethical standards. The following rules of good scientific practice helps to maintain these standards:

  • The submitted work should be original and not published elsewhere in any form or language (partially or in full), unless the new work concerns an expansion of previous work. If so, transparency on the re-use of material is required to avoid self-plagiarism.
  • The submitted manuscript cannot be sent to any other journal for consideration.
  • Please adhere to the generally accepted standards for reporting on humanities oriented research in scientific journals.
  • Analyses and results should be presented clearly, honestly, and without misrepresentation or inappropriate manipulation.
  • No text, philosophy or theories by others should be presented as if they were the author’s own. Avoid plagiarism by inserting proper references, including references to material that is summarized and/or paraphrased, concepts and expressions taken from another source, and permissions to use copyrighted material.
  • Please note that this journal may use software to screen for plagiarism. By submitting your paper to Speki. Nordic Philosophy of Education Review, you are agreeing to originality checks during the peer-review and production processes.
  • Any research article, book review and commentary published in this journal must cite appropriate and relevant literature to support claims and lines of argument. Excessive and inappropriate self-citation is strongly discouraged.
