Abstract

The emphasis of this article is on Egyptian plays on words with “ib” “heart”. There are eight different examples in total. In most cases, the plays on words can be explained by known phonetic laws. The reason for the relatively large number of these plays on words lies in the important role played by the heart among the organs in pharaonic Egypt.
