The Journal of Media Innovations accepts two types of contributions:

Academic articles

The topic must be relevant to the general scope and focus of The Journal of Media Innovations.

The article must be based on a relevant theoretical discussion and contribute to the theoretical development of the field.

The article should strive to be articulated and argued for in ways that will be clear to readers from a wide range of disciplines.

The article should show strong familiarity with and consistently good use of the literature directly relevant to the article's main arguments, supporting claims, and likely readers.

The article should contribute to and develop our knowledge of media innovations in a significant way.

Submission are free of charge. There is no publication fee

Research Briefs

Research Briefs should be between 3,000 and 5,000 words.

The Briefs must provide a clear, well-documented description of one or more aspects of an important example of media innovation.

The Briefs must conclude with a clear summary that highlights important points, lessons learned, and useful resources gleaned along the way.

In particular, the Research Briefs should make clear and articulate whatever lessons might be learned from the example – whether in terms of “routes to success” and/or of “routes to failure” - i.e., as the potentially generalizable insights offered by the case or example.

The Research Briefs cannot have been published elsewhere in the same form and format. That is, an article based on a conference presentation would be acceptable – but not one that is taken from a previously published conference proceedings, for example.
