Letter from the Editor

2021-03-08

Dear readers and authors,

It is with great pleasure and some trepidation that I take over in 2021 as editor-in-chief of CLARA – Classical Art and Archaeology, the OAJ founded by Marina Prusac-Lindhagen in 2014 and subsequently edited by her. Marina has been instrumental in all aspects of the journal and fortunately she continues her work in 2021 as Journal Manager. The aims and scope of CLARA remain much the same. The journal publishes articles within all areas of classical art and archaeology, as practised in the academy, museums and other institutions. Greece and Rome are, of course, central, but the material and visual culture of Egypt and the Near East are also of interest, as are early Christian, Byzantine and Medieval art and the reception of antiquity. Being hosted by the Cultural History Museum Oslo, CLARA also features research related to the museum collections.

Call for Papers

As an international journal with an international audience, CLARA wishes to represent new research and current debates in the field. The editorial team invites submissions in English of manuscripts within all areas of classical art and archaeology for the sections ‘Articles’ and ‘Chronicles’ (shorter academic texts) as well as suggestions for book reviews for the ‘Review’ section. Theoretical issues and transdisciplinary studies are especially welcome. We are also delighted to share that planning is underway for Special issue no. 2, the topic of which is The Classical in Contemporary Art and Visual Culture.

Looking forward to future collaborations in 2021.
