Retningslinjer for forfattere

Manuscripts and books for review in the journal should be sent to the Editor, ACTA ORIENTALIA, Amund B. Haave, Norwegian Institute of Philology, P.O. Box 2709, 0204 Oslo, Norway. Email: editor@actaorientalia.org. Electronic submissions by email should be accompanied by an error-free PDF file. The main editorial language will remain English, but articles in other languages are warmly welcomed, especially German and French, but also other major European languages, including Russian.

All graphs, drawings or photographs are to be referred to as Figures and should be numbered in sequence with Arabic numerals. Each figure should be identified with the figure number on the back and the orientation indicated. In the text, its approximate location should be indicated by a circled marginal note. Captions to figures should be printed consecutively on a separate page at the end of the paper.

Tables should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals and attention given to the dimensions of the printed page (11 ´ 17.5 cm). If submitted on separate sheets, the approximate location in the text should be indicated by a circled marginal note.

For further detailed information about graphs, drawings, photographs, tables or columns, please query the editor, preferably by email.

The simplest and best way to represent non-European characters and phonetic trans-cription is by using a Unicode font. A clear computer printout will be needed to check that the correct characters have appeared. If such characters are to be represented by a non-Unicode font, please query the editor in advance for submission details.

References in the text should quote the last name(s) of the author(s) and the year of publication. Three or more authors should be referred to as, for example, Brown et al. (1996). A list of references should be given at the end of the paper. The arrangement of the references should be alphabetical by author’s surname. The order of the items in each reference should be: surname of author followed by initials, year of publication, title of book italicized and written in full and followed by volume or edition number and (in case of articles) page numbers, followed by publisher and place of publication. When articles in journals are cited, the name of the journal should be italicized and followed by volume and number and finally the page numbers.

Footnotes should be indicated in the text by consecutive numbers and arranged as footnotes, i.e., at the end of each page, numbered in sequence with Arabic numbers.

Proofs will be sent to the author for careful checking and correction. Only minor changes in the original manuscript are allowed without extra costs, and only in the galley proofs. The original manuscript will not accompany the proofs. The author should mark all errors clearly in the proofs, and the proofs should be returned to ACTA ORIENTALIA within one week.
