About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The journal Nordic Museology is a forum for critical scholarly discussion of museum and heritage subjects in the Nordic countries. The twice-yearly peer-reviewed journal focuses on issues and themes currently in the spotlight in the fields of museology, art, natural and cultural heritage, with contributions from many different professions and different bodies. The journal thus aims to provide a broad spectrum of approaches and insights. There is no publication fee.

Nordisk Museologi receives financial support from the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research Council's Scheme for open journals within the humanities and social sciences (NÅHST), the Nordic Board for Periodicals in the Humanities and Social Sciences www.nos-nop.org, and is acknowledged by the official museums associations in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

Submission Guidelines and Peer Review Process

Submitted articles or suggestions for articles must not previously have been published or be under consideration for publication in any other journal, edited volume, monograph or equivalent. Manuscripts must be based on good scholarship and ethics, and the language must be of high quality. Given the scope and provenance of the journal, articles written in the Scandinavian languages are particularly welcomed.

Since 2006, Nordisk Museologi has applied a system of peer review to assess the main articles in the journal and, in certain cases, other contributions. This means that submissions are appraised for language and content in several stages, both by the editorial board and by two external peer reviewers. Peer review is “double blind”, meaning that neither the external assessor nor the author of the article knows each other’s identity, and that the appraisal is exclusively a matter between the reviewer and the editorial board of the journal. The editorial board is responsible for all correspondence with the author of the article.

Frequency of Publication

The journal is published twice a year.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
