Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, DOIs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is 1,5-spaced, uses a 12-point font and employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses). Illustrations, figures, and tables should be uploaded as image files with 300 DPI minimum resolution.

  • The language of the text is Danish, Norwegian, Swedish or English. Authors not writing in their native language have had their text professionally revised before it is submitted to the journal.

  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines and in the Style Rules.

  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

Contribution

Submitted articles or suggestions for articles may not previously have been published or be under consideration in other journals, anthologies, monographs, or equivalent. Manuscripts must be based on good scholarship and ethics, and the language must be of good guality.

Language

The journal's main languages are Danish, Norwegian and Swedish. Articles may also be submitted in English, especially by authors from Finland, Iceland and non-Nordic countries. Authors who are not writing in their native language should have the language of their texts professionally revised before it is submitted to the journal.

Length

Main articles may consist of a maximum of 7,000 words including notes, sources and references. Editorial welcomes suggestions for illustrations and pictures. Reviews, presentations and other types of articles may consist of a maximum of 3000 words, and for such contributions the editors should be contacted in advance. Questions and suggestions for reviews can be sent directly to the editor responsible for reviews.

Manuscripts

To be deemed suitable for publication, all texts must follow the guidelines and instructions for manuscripts, which are available in the "Style Rules" section of this website. Since 2006, Nordisk Museologi has applied a system of peer review to assess the main articles in the journal and, in certain cases, other contributions. This means that submission are appraised for language and content in several stages, both by the editorial board and by external peer reviewers. Publication

Questions about publication may be directed to the main editor or the country editors of the journal, whose names and contact information can be found in the "About" section in this website. Authors will receive a response to their manuscripts within two months after submission. Material will not be returned after publication and editors assume no responsibility for unsolicited material. Authors receive no payment for published material, but receive 1–3 copies of the issue of the journal, depending on the length of the contribution. Those who wish can also obtain their contribution as an pdf file and can freely disseminate it in relevant contexts. No fee is charged for publication, but authors themselves must cover expenses for any translation work and/or language revision, as well as expenses in connection with the use of illustrations. By contributing to the journal, authors give approval for their texts to be made available digitally, in parallel with printed issue.
