Abstract

What is an object photograph? What purpose does it serve in the museum? Which photo genre does it belong to, and what function does it have in the archives in the museum? Many critical essays have been written about archives and scientific objectivity. The article seeks to find out how practice has formed conventions about how to do object photography in the museum and to challenge these conventions. This is done by showing examples of contextual series of object photography made in contemporary documentation projects at the Akershus Museum.
