’Håndskriftsagen’ set fra danmark

Jeg skal komprimeret berette om den danske indfaldsvinkel til ”håndskriftsagen”, som begivenhedsforløbet kom til at hedde i Danmark. ”Håndskriftsagen” – alene ordet ”-sagen” antyder jo, at der var tale om en lang og problematisk proces, der i visse af sine faser dog næsten kunne være så spændende som en gyser. Der kørte i Danmark en stærkt følelsesladet debat for og imod udleveringen af de islandske håndskrifter til Island, man arrangerede demonstrationstog imod udleveringen, der var forslag om folkeafstemning, ja – diskussionen nåede så langt ud blandt almindelige folk, at der ligefrem kunne udskrives terminsprøvestile om emnet i gymnasierne.
I dag er sagen næsten glemt i Danmark; kun fagfolk husker den. At sagen har jævnet sig i Danmark ses af, at der faktisk ikke er skrevet ret meget om den fra dansk side i de sidste mange år. Interessant nok er den grundigste gennemgang af hele sagsforløbet ikke skrevet af en dansker men af en – islænding! Det er cand. mag. Sigrún Davídsdóttir, der i bogen: ”Håndskriftsagens Saga – i politisk belysning” fra 1999 har givet en – set fra dansk side – sober gennemgang af det komplicerede forløb.
