Det tog i Danmark en del år før kulturarvsbegrebet fra Museumsloven i 1984 for alvor blev aktiveret, men samtidig med at det i de seneste år så er gået stærkt for dette sesam-begreb såvel inden for museumsverdenen som på hele den offentlige kulturelle dagsorden, må man også konstatere at der ikke har været mange principielle eller teoretiske drøftelser af det på tryk.
Derfor er bogen Sønderjysk kulturarv et velkomment bud, til dato måske den mest konsekvente udfoldelse af den nyere kulturarvstænkning. Bag den årbogagtige titel gemmer sig en tematisk ordnet antologi med en række informative artikler og væsentlige perspektiver på flere ledder; konkret er det fra afsenderside en start på at omlægge den så velkendte museumsårboggenre i retning af en mere både fleksibel, sammenhængende og udadvendt type skriftrække.
