Sammendrag

Since the end of the 1960s Norway - like other Western countries - has had a relatively large number of immigrants from countries outside Europe. This immigration has partly consisted of refugees, partly of people searching for better economic and social conditions. They now constitute a significant part of the permanent population; significant in the sense that they are for more visible than the - until recently - more numerous North European expatriates who have «always» been in the country, and significant because, by the media and politicians and in many peoples minds, «they» have been classified as a single category characterised by unemployment, a range of social problems and deviant religious beliefs.
