Call for papers for Nordic Museology.
Museums after Covid-19: Impact of a pandemic
Thematical issue autumn 2021

We are right now in the second lockdown in the Nordic countries after the appearance of the Covid-19 virus in early 2020. Museums worldwide are closed, and museum employees have lost their jobs or have been working at home, some of them for nearly a year. Globally it is estimated that 1/3 of all museums might never open again.

In a lecture given in an online event, Michael Volkerlin Memorial Lecture on What is the future of museums post-Covid-19? in November 2020, museologist Elaine Heumann Gurian stated ‘Museums are never going to be the same’:

What are they going to be then? What can be said to have a future impact on the management and roles of museums in societies? Has the crisis given museums a foretaste on the major challenges of climate changes? What does the change in the tourism industry mean for museums?

We invite scholars and museum employees to send in papers in one of the three categories:

• Peer-reviewed articles, max. 7000 words (double-blind peer review)
• Perspectives or project description, max 3000 words (reviewed by the editorial board)
• Reflection papers, max. 1500 words (reviewed by the editorial board)

Deadline: 1 September, 2021.
