On the necessity of programmes for collecting in museums
After describing the unsystematic and haphazard way in which museum collections in Finland have been brought together, the paper goes on to review ideas about collecting practices (Pearce, Jeudy, Fromm). It then discusses both the responsibility and possibility of introducing a systematic collecting programme in museums.
