Abstract:
Should religious education give more space to discuss whether claims made in religions and worldviews are true? This article argues that pupils both can and should discuss the truth of religions and worldviews to a larger extent than what is done today. It proceeds by offering a comprehensive justification for this claim, discussing five kinds of objections: epistemological, religious, pedagogical, ethical and practical. The objections from epistemology and religious studies are mainly that one cannot justifiably discuss the truth of religions and worldviews, while the other objections are mainly that one should not.
Key words: Questions of truth in religious education; critique of religion
