Livsmestring i kirke og skole. Å kunne møte livet i gode og onde dager

Begrepet livsmestring gir en umiddelbar forestilling om at det handler om å mestre livet, å klare seg i både medgang og i motgang, å kunne håndtere det livet gir. Men begrepet brukes i flere sammenhenger, og i faglitteraturen legges det vekt på at mestring består av komplekse og uoversiktlige prosesser.
Livsmestring har kommet inn som ett av tre tverrfaglige tema i den nye overordnede delen av skolens læreplanverk. I kirkelig sammenheng er dette ikke lenger et nytt begrep: Det er snart et tiår siden Plan for trosopplæring. Gud gir - vi deler kom, der livsmestring er en uttalt del av formålet. I denne artikkelen vil jeg se på hvordan begrepet brukes direkte i plan for trosopplæring og skolens læreplan og gjøre en sammenlikning. For å forstå begrepet bedre, vil jeg hente fram mestringsteori som gir innspill til hva mestringens vilkår kan være. Jeg vil også trekke inn noen andre relevante begrep som gir innspill til refleksjonen om livsmestring; relasjonskompetanse, livskompetanse og empowerment. Avslutningsvis vil jeg sette fokus på hva det betyr at livsmestring er en sentral del av formålet innenfor både skole og kirke.
