This report briefly presents the results from an excavation and survey of an abandoned and de-militarized facility used by the Swedish air force during the Cold war. From this site all of Sweden’s attack air forces was controlled. The site was for many years top-secret and not even the people living close to it knew what is was for. The survey and excavation aimed to document what was left and also gather material to discuss how to preserve sites like this for the future. Through the survey and excavations it was possible to highlight how the site had been used over time. The project also revealed how inaccessible sites like these are in terms of possibilities to study materials in the archives, a lot of the material is still classified. Further, the project showed that the multi-faceted methods and source materials used within Archaeology of the recent past enabled new approaches to the understanding of the Cold War heritage and its materiality. This is the first Cold war site in Sweden approached by archaeologists with archaeological methods and theoretical frameworks.
