Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word or RTF document file format.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • The manuscript is proofread and written in English or one of the Scandinavian languages (Danish, Norwegian, Swedish)
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed. The manuscript is cleaned from any information that can identify the author. The PROPERTIES of the manuscript have been checked to make sure that no author name is detailed there.
  • The author confirms that all relevant research ethical requirements have been met and is willing to provide details on request from the editor.

Author Guidelines

Authors who are interested in submitting to this journal should review the About the Journal page, as well as the Author Guidelines. All submissions should be made online. Authors need to register with the journal prior to submitting. Once registered, you can begin the submission process by clicking "Make a submission" on the right side menu.

The manuscript file must be anonymized and proof-read before submission. Manuscripts must not be under consideration in other outlets or have appeared in any other published form at the time of submission.

Length: The manuscript should not exceed 40,000 characters (without spaces), excluding bibliography and abstract
Languages: Scandinavian languages (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish) or English 

Style sheet

  • page format: A4; margins: 2,5 cm all around; line spacing: 1,5
  • font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 pt
  • notes: footnotes should be used sparingly. Do not use endnotes.
  • quotes: short quotations within the text should be marked by double quotation marks. Longer quotations exceeding three lines should be placed within the document as an indented paragraph, with extra line breaks before and after the quote.
  • highlighting: Use italics to highlight information within text. Do not use any other form of highlighting, except for clickable URL links, which will automatically be underlined
  • tables & figures: For table and figure captions as well as for text within tables and figures, the author should use the Arial font, size 10pt.
  • The manuscript file should be as complete as possible. This means that the images, figures, tables, endnotes and bibliography will preferably be placed within the manuscript file as the author wishes them to appear in the final published article. If the author is using additional tools (such as EndNote or Excel) to create references or tables and figures, the mounted elements should be as simple and as stable as possible. 
  • Literature references: ADNO uses the reference style as described in the most recent APA Publication Manual. Authors must make sure that the literature citations and the bibliography are formatted to the specifications given in these guidelines. Click on this link to access the American Psychological Association Publication Manual. References in the text: Literature references within the main text should be placed in parentheses (Author, 2000). Give page references where necessary (Author, 2000, p. 10). Footnotes or endnotes should not be used for literature references. Bibliography: References should be listed first alphabetically and then chronologically. The section should include all (and only) references that are actually mentioned in the text. DOIs should be included whenever possible.

Title page with manuscript title, abstract, keywords and author bio

Please submit a title page in a separate document from the manuscript. The title page should include the manuscript title, a concise and informative abstract of no more than 250 words, three-six keywords and an author bio of no more than 50 words per author. Title, abstract and key words must be submitted in English and in one Scandinavian language. The author bio(s) should be written in the same language as the manuscript.

The abstract should state briefly the purpose of the research, the methodology applied, the principal results and major conclusions. Do not use subheadings in the abstract. 

The author bio should include the author's full name and title, institutional affiliation and main research interests. Full contact information should be provided (i.e. the institution's mail address as well as the author's e-mail address). Please see recently published articles for examples.

If relevant, the title page should include a statement of whether (financial and non-financial) conflicting interests exist, an acknowledgement, and information about ethics committee approval.

The title page should be uploaded as a supplementary file.

Specific guidelines for empirical articles presenting new research

Research articles in this section should include the following sections (headings and subheadings can be adjusted by the author):

Introduction:

The introduction states the objectives of the work and provides an adequate background and rationale of the study as well as a clearly formulated research statement.

Literature review / theory (may in some cases be incorporated into the Introduction section)

The literature review should give an overview of the available literature (including international references) which frames the issue being researched.

Materials and methods

The methods section should provide sufficient detail to allow the work to be replicated. Outline the research design, present relevant research instruments and the sample / the participants of the study, and describe procedures for data collection and data analysis. You should also discuss issues related to reliability, validity and transferability/generalizability.

Results / Findings

The result section should include a clear and concise presentation of the results, subdivided in appropriate subsections. Include tables and figures when relevant.

Discussion

The discussion section typically starts off with a brief summary of the main results. The findings are then interpreted and discussed in light of previous research and relevant theory. Methodological limitations and issues concerning validity and transferability/generalizability may also be discussed here.

Conclusions

The conclusion section provides a brief summary of the main findings and their implications. It suggests some avenues for further research.

References

References are given in the APA format, see guidelines above

Appendices (e.g. research instruments such as questionnaires or interview guides) may be included

 

Specific guidelines for thematic articles

Discussion articles should include the following sections (the title/subtitles of the different sections may vary):

Introduction

The introduction states the objectives of the work and provide a research statement.

Literature review / theory (may in some cases be incorporated into the Introduction section)

The literature review should give an overview of the available literature (including international references) which frames or surrounds the issue being researched

Findings/discussion

These sections should be divided into relevant subsections

Conclusions

The conclusion section provides a brief summary of the discussion and its implications. It also suggests some avenues for further research.

References

References are given in the APA format, see guidelines above

Appendices may be included if deemed relevant

Book reviews

Acta Didactica accepts book reviews of text books and teaching resources relevant for teaching and learning. The reviewer should give a clear and systematic evaluation of the material in order to help the reader determine how relevant the book/resource is for his/her purpose. The review should build on relevant theory and research. Please include a picture of the book/teaching resource.

The review should include the following information:

  • Author(s)
  • Title
  • Publication date
  • Publisher
  • Place of publication and country
  • Number of pages
  • ISBN
  • Price
